Speaker A:

Hello everyone and welcome to another Discovercast. My name is Michael Doey's and I'm here to talk about the next iPad app that came out today that we haven't covered yet. And that's logic pro. I'm really excited about this one, folks. So as we did last time with Final Cut, we're going to start with the keyboard and see what we can do. And then we will work towards using the touchpad. And we're going to try to get this all done in one podcast this time instead of having to do two. So with all that being said, let's get going. We have the initial screen here, the welcome to Logic. So let's see what we got.

Speaker B:

Speaker C:

Speaker B:

Audio one. Audio track mute button, solo button, record button volume 71% adjust one select loops, instrument patches or off track header controls visible but select loops, instrument patches or audio patches in the browser track header controls horizontal scroll bar night browser switch button on double tap to off so.

Speaker A:

The button to turn off the browser is at the bottom left. I like that because it makes it a lot cleaner of an interface. So that's what we did there. We turned off the browser, so all that stuff on the left went away.

Speaker B:

Inspector switch button off fader switch button off editor switch button off double tap.

Speaker A:

On I have no clue what the editor does, so that's interesting.

Speaker B:

Off plugins switch editor plugins mixer switch button off play Surface switch button off play Surface switch button off so I.

Speaker A:

Believe the Play Surface lets you actually play on the actual device.

Speaker B:

Mixer switch button on so let's look at the Mixer plug editor fader inspector browser two stereo out mute button master mute button two stereo out mute buck one audio one solo but mute button volume fader 74% a $0.0 button button.

Speaker A:

So there are unlabeled buttons in the mixer. So just letting people know that they are images, I'm not sure what they are.

Speaker B:

Volume fader 74% adjustable 0.0 but balance zero read button input monitoring button record button button record button button volume fader 74% 0.0 button balance zero adjust read button button stereo output but input one button volume fader 0.0 balance zero read button filter image two one filter image resize handle 55% button adjustable. So again activate to toggle height. Swipe up or down with one finger to adjust the value.

Speaker A:

There's a lot of things that are labeled that are not, and it's kind of hard to tell if you're just going through this, what they're going to do. So this will take a person very much more skilled in audio than me to really determine more.

Speaker B:

Button on slash off switch multiple select selected mix button setup button horizontal scroll bar track Header Controls visible audio one audio track volume set record button volume One track Header controls visible plug mixer switch button on off so I just.

Speaker A:

Used Explore by Touch to find my mixer and I turned it off. So we're going to go ahead and back up.

Speaker B:

Go up ways save inspector browser horizontal scroll track Header Controls visible audio one audio track track One one use the rotor to access toggle track Header controls visibility tracks playhead whoa, hang on, hold up.

Speaker A:

Did you hear that hint?

Speaker B:

Toggle track header controls visibility Tracks Selected Track Header activate to select the track.

Speaker C:

Or to open a menu on a.

Speaker B:

Selected track use the rotor to toggle track header controls visibility Headings containers Speaking Rate 60 words characters Playhead bar Two beat one.

Speaker C:

Division One. Tick 1. Bar One. Beat one. Division one tick one.

Speaker A:

Okay, so I'm going to press the R key and see if that records just like on other platforms. Yes, it does. So we are now recording and I can hear twice. I guess it's both monitors because it lets you monitor your stuff. That's really nice. Although it's very disconcerting in what we're doing here. So this is to record some audio and we're going to see how we can edit it okay, so we've just recorded our first audio. Now I've changed my but it looks like we're still playing. Okay? So what we can do now is use our playhead, and I think we can use our rotor.

Speaker C:

Bar 15 beat 1 bar 14 Beat bar 15 Beat one Division bar 14 bar 30 bar twelve Beat bar eleven beat. Bar ten beat. Bar nine Beat one div eight Beat one Division bar seven beat 1 bar six beat 1 bar Five beat One division bar Four beat One division 1 bar Three beat One division One tick 1 bar Two bar One beat One division One tick one.

Speaker A:

So already this is much more accessible than Final Cut as far as voiceover folks, because there are Rotor actions. So I was able to use my rotor and flick up and down to go between different items. Now, again, there are unlabeled buttons around the app, so this is a lot better. So let me try to make an edit like I would on the computer. So I'm going to press space to play. Yes, it does. So we are now recording and I can hear twice. I guess it's my monitor. So let's just say I want to do this here. I'm going to do command T both monitors which did not do what I thought it would do. Command T did not make a split because it lets you monitor. So that's kind of a shame. Let's see. Okay, so already the keystrokes are not the same here, folks. Just letting you guys know that they are very much not the same.

Speaker B:

Selected track header. Selected track header.

Speaker A:

Vo.

Speaker B:

Left and right arrow is not doing selected Track Header. Select all inside cycle. Activate default. Selected track header. Selected. Selected project number zero one Audio Region.

Speaker C:

Bar Seven beat One division 1 bar Six, beat One division One, tick One.

Speaker A:

So I really like that you can move with the playhead like this. So I guess what we need to do is figure out some keystrokes because or what we need to do is figure out how to split or how we can make edits.

Speaker B:

Caps Lock On caps Lock Off ruler Playback Head bar song and Marker bar One hunt Cycle bar more button pop snap One. Slash Four coffee switch multiple select switch stretch button split button split split tool.

Speaker C:

Bar Nine beat One division One tick.

So there is a Split Tool stretch button selected. Split button, loop button trim button select stretch button selected. Stretch multiple select switch stretch selected. Lube button trim button lube selected. Split button selected. Split selected. Project number zero one audio region starting.

Speaker C:

Speaker A:

Doesn't sound like the arrow keys do much.

Speaker B:

Speaker A:

Can move our playhead and then bar.

Speaker C:

Eight beat one, division One tick bar nine, Beat One division bar eight, Beat one, division one, tick one.

Speaker A:

Okay that's cool. So what I did was I put the split Tool where I wanted and I pressed and I double tapped and it split from where I was to the end. Now I wonder what happens if so let's go ahead and do undo.

Speaker B:

Close. Project back button selected.

Speaker C:

Project Number Zero bar nine, beat One division bar eight, beat 1 bar seven, beat bar six, beat one, division one, tick one selected. Split Tool bar six, beat one, division.

Speaker A:

You want to put the first split and then I'm going to go back further in the project.

Speaker C:

Bar six bar five, beat bar four, beat one, division one, tick one.

Speaker A:

Basically it split again to the end of the project.

Speaker C:

Bar six Beat One division one tick 1 bar seven beat One division one tick One.

Speaker A:

Well, it did split. So I'm wondering if what I can do now is double tap split split.

Speaker C:

Tool Bar six Beat One division one tick 1 Bar eight Beat one division bar seven Beat one division.

Speaker B:

Split tool button, adjustable. Split tool button selected.

Speaker C:

Project number zero 1 Bar six beat 1 bar seven Beat One division selected. Split Tool Bar seven Beat One division.

Speaker B:

One tick one button adjustable bar eight.

Speaker C:

Beat One division one tick one.

Speaker A:

So yes, you can. With the Split Tool, you basically tap where you want to put your splits, and then it splits those regions there. Now let's see if I can go and select different regions. Now with a rotor.

Speaker B:

Tracks playhead characters, words, speaking rate 60 containers headings adjust value. Tracks adjust value.

Speaker A:

So maybe I need to go back.

Speaker B:

To the Trim loop button. Trim Button loop but selected stretch but multiple select snap one slash four multiple select stretch select Lube trim button. Trim selected. Selected project number zero one two audio region starting at bar seven beat One.

Speaker C:

So I have the whole track activate.

Speaker B:

To select the track or to open a menu on a Zoom headed containers Speaking Rate 6th words characters playhead selected audio One rename button duplicate but create summing stack create folder stack show patches but find similar save patch delete button.

Speaker A:

So this is the menu on the track.

Speaker B:

Speaker C:

One, division one, tick 1 bar six, beat One division one, tick one.

Speaker B:

Selected project number zero one two audio.

Speaker C:

Region starting at bar seven beat one division one, tick one length three bars, two beats one division.

Speaker B:

Select project number zero one two. Dismiss context menu.

Speaker A:

Okay, so that's interesting. I can use left and right arrow to go by audio regions, but it does not tell me that it's doing that with Voiceover. So that's kind of a pain. So I can probably press Delete Region Deleted and that did not do what I wanted it to do. So we're going to undo it. Deleted Everything.

Speaker B:

Alert delete Track and Regions.

Speaker A:

So I just told, let's see.

Speaker B:

Deleting this track also deletes the regions on the track. Cancel Button delete cancel Button deleted track close project Back Button alert delete Track and Regions deleting this track cancel Button delete Button cancel deleted track Close Project.

Speaker A:

That'S just a region Selected let's see.

Speaker B:

Deleted so that was weird.

Speaker A:

I just pressed delete again and it deleted the region. So I'm going to put that region.

Speaker B:

Back region Deleted okay, so there has.

Speaker A:

To be something I'm missing with Voiceover to do some more of these things, but I'm not seeing it. So let's go ahead and put the region back. So let's go ahead and see project.

Speaker B:

Number zero, one two audio region starting at bar seven. Beat track header controls visible, select project number. Audio want volume, record solo mute, select ruler song cycle bar one more, but snap coffee multiple, select stretch, split loop, select automation. Speaker B:

Speaker C:

In the background while recording audio.

Speaker A:

So it sounds like this can run Logic Pro in the background. So you could do other things on your iPad. That's pretty neat.

Speaker B:

Run in background on Alert run in Background you may experience performance issues depending on which other apps are running. If this occurs, it may help to increase the buffer size. Tap the Audio tab, then choose a different buffer. Setting OK button.

Speaker B:

Selected sennheiser Profile button. Input sennheiser output sennheiser sennheiser Profile speaker buck Speaker Button selected. Sennheiser Profile airplay single destination buck airplane multi destination button.

Speaker A:

So this is very much like logic on the computer. So again this is very nice. Much more accessible than Final Cut but it still has some issues I need to work out. But this is definitely one. I would recommend that if you are a blind audio editor and you want to use voiceover, this is doable not optimal but definitely doable. So I was able to make some edits. It was a little tricky but again as low vision, I don't know if I would like to use the iPad. I think there's more sound packs and some good ways to get started learning to edit. But I'm really excited about this app folks, really excited. Eventually I will have to do a like edit a podcast and we'll do a follow up discussion about this on if I was able to make this a primary place to work. So this has been very exciting and another Discover cast that is done. I'm very excited to have you guys with us. So thanks again for putting up with me this whole time today with all these podcasts. So we'll be back with our typical IA cast and we'll talk about all these things and our views and I just want to thank you all again for being here. This has been another video and audio podcast and this one was on Logic Pro so I'm really excited to check it out now that we've done these podcasts so I can dig into these apps fully and then let you guys know more as time goes on. So thank you again and we'll see you next time.
